Registration Date: 24 / 06 / 2021
Parish Name: Dunstable
Location: Land at Quarry Walk, Dunstable, LU6 3FN
Statutory Class: All Other Minor Developments
Proposal: Development of specialised supported living accommodation comprising a block of two five-bedroom shared supported living apartments, and a block of ten one-bedroom self-contained supported living apartments, together with new communal open space and car parking (Use Class C3).

A plot of land approximately 0.8km south-west of Dunstable Town Centre at Quarry Walk, Dunstable, could be developed for supported living accommodation if a new planning application is given permission.

In the application, the land described as “approximately 0.25ha of underutilised scrubland which was formerly associated with the adjoining allotment”, “has been declared surplus to requirements by the Council, and the land has been formally de-registered as allotment land by the Secretary of State”.  The development would provide high-quality specialised accommodation for vulnerable adults with disabilities to be managed and operated by Inclusion Housing, with support provided by Central Bedfordshire Council.

According to the application, a pre-application meeting was held with the council’s planning department on 6 July 2018 to discuss the proposals for the site. Central Bedfordshire’s adult social care commissioning team have confirmed their full support for the proposal, including the form of development and the locational suitability of the site. The scheme is being delivered in co-operation with the Council, who will provide the on-site support staff for the development.

There are shops and bus stops nearby.

The two apartment blocks would provide disability-friendly accommodation comprising two, five-bedroom self-contained shared supported living apartments, and 10 fully self-contained one-bedroom supported living apartments. 14 car parking spaces would be provided primarily for staff and occasional visitors.
