CBC Leisure Centres Remain Open Despite Doubts Over Other Councils Leisure Facilities

Last Thursday, Localgov.co.uk warned that, “More than 100 leisure centres in England could go bust due to the coronavirus crisis”

The report continued, “A new survey revealed today that one in three district councils expect to be forced to close gyms and swimming pools due to the ‘devastating’ financial impact of the pandemic.”

Here, in Central Bedfordshire, the Council doesn't seem to believe this will apply to them as their statement issued today, 18 May, reads,

“All of our leisure centres are open to support healthy lifestyles across Central Bedfordshire. We are really pleased that group fitness classes are able to restart this week.

“We continue to work with our leisure operator Stevenage Leisure Limited (SLL) to support recovery and together we have secured grants and financial support from the government. This financial support will help to support health and wellbeing provision for residents in the future.

“We have been supporting our customers by ensuring our facilities have been open when restrictions have allowed, and we will be continuing to focus on our recovery and ensuring our services continue to be available as restrictions continue to lift.”
