Mischief Makers Coming to Library!

This summer, libraries across Central Bedfordshire will take part in the national Summer Reading Challenge. This year it will have a Beano theme to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the iconic British comic. Children will be able to join the challenge for free from Saturday, 21 July at their local library. This year’s challenge will be called ‘Mischief Makers’ and will give children the opportunity to explore a map of Beanotown to find the mysterious buried treasure and become ultimate mischief makers! Dennis, Gnasher and friends will help them solve clues and collect stickers, having lots of fun and adventures along the way. The Summer Reading Challenge is simple. Children are encouraged to read books of their choice during the holidays, with collectable incentives and rewards. There’s also a certificate and medal for every child who completes the challenge. Teenagers can also apply to become a Reading Hack volunteer and help out at their local library during the summer. As

Dunstable Centre — Topping Out Ceremony

Construction of the new Dunstable Centre reached another milestone this week, with a 'Topping Out Ceremony' to celebrate the building construction reaching its highest point. The topping-out ceremony took place yesterday (Tuesday 10 July) at the Dunstable site, which is in Court Drive. Attendees from Central Bedfordshire Council and other key organisations took the opportunity to have a tour of the construction site. At a time when leisure centres and libraries across the country are closing, we are proud to be investing in new and improved facilities that will help our residents' health and wellbeing and secure services in the town. The £20.1million centre is on-track to be opened in the winter 2018/2019. With £1m National Lottery funding from Sport England, the building will be a state-of-the-art community hub that will provide a new leisure facility, new library, accommodation for a new Citizens Advice service, and day-care for adults with learning disabilities.
