Key Facts

JOINING - The library is free to join with proof of name and address, or if no proof you may still borrow 4 books. If you are aged under 15, a parent or guardian must consent. To join the library complete a form at the library, or DOWNLOAD an application form, print it off and take it to the library.

  • Up to 10 books may be borrowed free of charge. All issues are for 3 weeks.
  • Hire fees apply for taking out up to 10 audio items of adult audio books, CDs or 4 DVDs. 
  • Audio books are issued for 3 weeks.
  • DVDs, CDs, and magazines are issued for 1 week.
  • To borrow for longer periods go to the Virtual Library and renew there. Or telephone the library. Or renew in person at the library.
  • Free Internet access and computer use.
  • Regular activities 
  • Book start packs are free books and tips to share with your children.
  • No need to worry about noise or odd tantrums.
  • If a damaged book is for a child under 5 borrowed on an under 5s ticket, there is no replacement charge.
  • Buggies and wheelchairs are welcome inside the library.
  • Breast or bottle feeding is permitted inside the library.
  • Parents and carers are responsible for their children inside the library.

ROOM FOR HIRE - a room is available to hire suitable for up to 10 people.

THE VIRTUAL LIBRARY - The Virtual Library  offers E-audio books, homework help, research references, business information, download e-audio books and much more. It is open 22 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When you are a member of Central Bedfordshire Library service you also have access to FREE e-resources from the Virtual Library. Or you can just have access to the Virtual Library by completing their application form online.

1. Audio and E-Books - search and download over 1,500 e-books and e-audio titles for free.

2. Freegal - stream up to 3 hours of music a day, download 5 music tracks a week. Choice of 9 million tracks.

3.  RB Digital Magazines - free download from a choice of over 50 magazine titles. What's On Tv, BBC History, Computer Active, Amateur Photographer, Gardener's World, Elle, Horrible Histories, Ideal Home, Marie Claire, Mother & Baby, + many more!

4. PressReader - instant access to over 4,000 newspapers from 100 countries in 60 languages, available up to date, with images and translations. Why struggle with those screens nagging you not to use an advertising blocker, when you can read these online for free, and free of nagging. 10. The Times Digital Archive - great for researching your favourite topic. Covers period 1785-2012.
