Volunteers Sought To Help With Local Beacons - Heritage Lottery Funding Bid

Ivinghoe Beacon

The Chiltern Society is partnering with the Chilterns Conservation Board (CCB) on their ‘Hillforts’ project, a 4 year programme of work to raise awareness of the 22 Iron Age hillfort sites in the Chilterns. Active work will be done on 8 of the sites to improve their condition and draw the wider public into their promotion and conservation.

The Chiltern Society has pledged £20k over the 4 years; and has also pledged the active support of its volunteers.

CCB is currently compiling a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £220k plus to execute  the project. As part of that bid they would like to present the results of a survey showing the motivations of visitors to two of the sites; Pulpit Hill near Princes Risborough and Ivinghoe Beacon at the north end of the Chiltern hills.

Volunteers are sought to carry out survey work on  those sites. We’re looking to get 50 responses to a 5 minute survey from each site. Equipment required: clip board and pen. Enthusiasm: prepared to accost all and sundry with a sunny smile and persuade them to answer a few simple questions.

CCB would like to carry out the work at the beginning of May.
