Northfields: 9 Candidates for Two Seats on DTC

The resignation of two Conservatives from Dunstable Town Council has plunged Dunstable Northfields ward into a political battlefield as 9 candidates have put their names down for the election. Nominations closed at 4pm on Friday 28th October. The election will take place on 24 November, 2016. Independents have previously done well in the ward, and Alan Corkhill and Martin Young will be hoping to win back seats the Conservatives have vacated.  Liberal Democrats David Gurr and Elaine Morgan have clear hopes, as have their Conservative rivals Stephen Elliot and William Tookey, their Labour rivals Anne Kennedy and Roger Pepworth, and UKIP hopeful John Gurney. Hospice at Home Volunteers Benefit From £500 Asda Grant

Dunstable and Houghton Regis Hospice at Home Volunteers  have received a £500 cheque from ASDA Dunstable. Maureen Kerr from the group said, "We were started in 1986 by the vision of a small group of local people. It was recognised that people with life limiting illnesses needed support specific to their needs. We offer a free service that provides strength and encouragement at a difficult time. The support that is provided is flexible depending on the client's specific needs. Support could include; spending time with the client allowing their carer time for a break, accompanying the client on trips to the shops or to a favourite venue or offering companionship in the comfort and privacy of their own home. "Last year our volunteers offered over 3000 hours in this role. We take referrals from any health professional such as local GPs, District Nurses, Social Services and Keech Hospice. “The money from the ASDA Green Tokens Scheme will be used for the ongoing runnin
