  • A5 M1 Link Road Closures We will be closing Thorn Road from 6am Monday 25 July 2016 to 6am Monday 1 August 2016 to allow us to complete the tie-in works to the new roundabout from Thorn Road. Access to and from any properties on Thorn Road will be via the A5120 end of Thorn Road. We will also be closing the A5 between the Hockliffe to the A505 roundabout to allow completion works to the new roundabout from 10pm Friday 29 July 2016 to 6am Monday 1 August 2016, whilst this closure is in place Thorn Road will also be closed, access for residents will be via the A5120 end of Thorn Road. When we open up the A5 on Monday 1 August 2016 there will be no right turn onto Thorn Road, and no right turn from Thorn Road onto the A5, drivers are to follow the signed diversion to gain access to and from Thorn Road. Sunday 31 July - The free courses are available on a first-come, first-served basis on receipt of a completed application form, which can be requested by emailing roadsafety@luton.gov.uk MORE 16 course gives 16-year-olds their first experience of driving, encouraging them to be safer by the time they have passed their tests. Advice given to parents about choosing driving instructors and how to help their teens practice at home. MORE 17-30 year olds - aimed at those who have already passed their test. Drive on a skid pan, experience an ABS braking systems, practice emergency stops at speed. A high-speed passenger ride is also available with a Millbrook pro-driver for parents that attend.   • Six motorcyclists have been handed driving bans for a combined total of 10 years after they were caught performing “outrageous” high speed stunts.And the men were sentenced this week thanks to digital cameras which had been mounted to one of their bikes. The offences occurred on Sunday, April 13, 2014. The highest speed recorded in the footage was more than 140mph.On Wednesday, July 21, the six motorcyclists were ordered to pay £500 costs after pleading guilty. They were also each handed driving bans.Matthew Langley, aged 37, of Marston Mortaine, Bedford, was disqualified for three years.Malik Blackburn, 31, of Corfe Road, Bedford, was disqualified for two years.Axel Jones, 25, of Bedford Road, Turvey, was disqualified for 18 months. Matthew James, 29, of Princess Street, Bedford, was disqualified for 18 months. Jonathan Wartnaby, 32, and of Springfield Avenue, Kempston, was disqualified for 18 months. And Kevin Saunders, 29, of Withnell Road, Blackpool, was disqualified for 12 months. Motorist Alistair Turner from Stevenage was also found guilty of dangerous driving in relation to the same incident. He was disqualified for 12 months this week and ordered to pay costs of £2,700. Shaha Malik, of Dunraven Avenue, Dunstable, pleaded guilty to three offences relating to the sale of illicit tobacco when he appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday (5 July). He was sentenced to fines totalling £1,025 as well as being ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £44 and costs to the council of £1,585.85. This FREE event will take place at and around Grove Skatepark (behind Go Bowling) thanks to funding received from EE after they used the skatepark in a recent advert. There will be an opportunity for 5 to 12 year olds to book onto either one of the two free coaching sessions; 10.00 am to 11.15 am or 11.30 am to 12.45 pm. There are only 15 places per session so booking early is advised. All equipment will be provided. Two experienced coaches will be on hand for the afternoon drop-in 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. This is for skaters of any age who want to improve their skills and confidence or for those wanting to learn new tricks.
