“Please Report Inconsiderate Parking Incidents” - Cllr John Gurney

By Cllr John Gurney (Dunstable Town Council)

Many residents will say they've heard it all before but things are changing because Central Beds Council has listened to the concerns of residents all over our county.

Bus shelter view obstructed

This week I spoke to the parking department at Central Beds Council (CBC) about various car parking problems that have been reported to me and my brother. I was assured that anyone who phones or emails them, with details and/or photos of the vehicles involved, will have the issue investigated by one of their Civil Enforcement Officers (CEO).

Phone: 0300 300 8005
Email: parking@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk

Tell them the registration number, make, model and colour of the car and the parking problem.

Central Beds Council has just recruited 4 additional CEOs to add to the team they already had. Whilst these officers may operate throughout Central Bedfordshire, having extra CEOs, means they can be sent to investigate a parking problem as and when it is reported.

IT HELPS TO BE NUISANCE CALLER

If the same parking issues are reported to be taking place regularly/daily at the same places and times, a CEO may be deployed to the area to act immediately. We are creatures of habit, and unless checked/advised otherwise, most people will continue to park in the same place.

The Parking department told me it helps if more residents report issues even if they keep occurring in the same place but with different vehicles. Do not worry about becoming a nuisance caller because this is exactly what the CBC Parking want. By reporting every vehicle, every time, parking in the wrong place, incorrectly or you judge it to be illegal; Central Beds Parking will be able to see there is a real problem and may then consider finding a long-term solution.

Footpath obstructed

Please contact Central Beds Parking with any parking issue yourself. Phone or email and explain recurring issues. Suggest a CEO regularly or randomly patrols the specific spot at the same time but on different days.

Please forward me a copy of your email with the photos after you have reported an incident. I will collate all the reports I receive and this will help us to pursue Central Beds Council to devise a solution to prevent the parking problem recurring.

Corner parking obstructing view for emerging traffic

It is not illegal to take photographs or video footage in public places unless it is for criminal or terrorist purposes. I have not identified any of the owners of the vehicles shown on this post or given their address. It is not illegal to publish photographs of objects in public places, such as parking on a road or pavement.
